3 Steps You Should Take To Maintain Your Washer And Dryer

by Lillian Bishop

Maintaining your washer and dryer is an important step that you need to take in order to make sure that you are able to continue washing and drying your clothes in your home. This is because it is very easy for washers and dryers to break down over time, due to their large number of moving parts. To extend the lifespan of your washer and dryer and avoid having to repair or replace them, follow these three steps.

1. Check the Drain Hose

The drain hose is the way that dirty water leaves the washing machine. You need to make sure that this hose is working correctly or else the water will stay in the washing machine or pool around it, causing an electrical shortage. To check the drain hose, turn off both the hot and the cold water in your home. Then, turn off the power to the washer and dryer, which are normally on the same circuit. Then, look at your washer. If you see anything protruding from it, it is likely the drain hose.

Using a wrench remove the washer that is holding the hose in place and pull it out of the washing machine. If you see that it has any cracks, make sure that you replace it with the same type of hose. If there are any foreign particles blocking the drain hose, remove them. When you are done with your inspection, replace the drain hose and turn the water and power back on.

2. Clean the Filters

If you have too much dirt or debris in your washing machine, then the overall effectiveness of the machine will be slowly reduced. The debris may eventually cause it to fail. Make sure that you clean out the filters every other week to increase your water efficiency and make sure that your washing machine continues to work. Using a bristle brush tends to be the most effective way to clean filters.

3. Clean the Lint Trap

This does not mean the lint catcher, because you should be cleaning this every time your run a load through your dryer. The lint trap is the trench where the lint catcher is stored. Using the same bristle brush from the step above, clean out this lint trap. This will ensure that no foreign particles are allowed to heat enough to catch on fire and damage your dryer.

About Me

Creating a Quick Home Sale

One of the things that helped sell my home quickly, at least according to my real estate agent, was the time I spent fixing up the landscaping. I knew about the importance of eye appeal, but who would have thought that something as simple as a storage shed or a backyard veggie garden could make such a big difference in the sale price of a home, and the length of time it takes to sell said home? Well to prove that my landscaping techniques worked, I helped three friends sell their homes using some of my tips and tricks. It seems to have worked, because every one of them were able to fetch their asking price and sell before their goal deadlines. So, I figured I should help others out there who could use a little help in the home selling department… hopefully you'll find inspiration on the pages here.
