Get Your Patio Ready For Spring

by Lillian Bishop

Now that spring is finally moving its way in, you should go outside and check out your patio. Winter has likely left behind a mess. Once you get it cleaned, below are some tips on how to spruce it up.

Give Your Personal Touch

If your patio is covered, hang some decorative hanging lanterns from the ceiling. At night, they give a beautiful light. You can find these in a variety of sizes, as well as shapes, such as round, square, and oval. Use colored light bulbs in them for a nice effect.

To hang the lanterns, put a string of fishing line on the hook of each lantern, and tie the line to the patio support. Put paper lanterns around the entire patio support for a nice effect.

Purchase some potted flowers or hanging baskets filled with fragrant flowers to give the patio a nice fragrance and color.

Purchase a baker's rack for your patio, and set pots of flowers on each level. Set pots of flowers like begonia, salvia, tulips, on the top level. Below this, use flowers that will cascade down the rack, creating a beautiful display. Flowers like lobelia, pansies, and petunias work well for this purpose.

Purchase some wooden stools, and remove the seating. Glue some wooden game tables in their place using wood glue to have outdoor game night.

Make It Nice and Comfortable

Because you will likely spend a lot of time on your patio, you should make it a nice and comfortable place. You can do this by choosing the right type of furniture. When choosing the table and chairs for your patio, sit in them first. Besides making sure the cushions are comfortable, they should also provide good back support.

When it comes to the furniture, you have many choices to choose from including:

  • Wicker furniture: Offers a traditional look
  • Sling furniture: Easy to maintain and clean
  • Aluminum: Very durable material
  • Wrought iron: Will last you a very long time
  • Plastic: Environmentally friendly and stands up to any weather

Put more seating and resting room on your patio by using a couch or a daybed made for outside use.

Use end tables so people have a place to set their drink, and put some comfortable pillows on the daybed or couch if your patio is covered.

Put some paper lantern table lamps on the end tables to go with the paper lantern lamps hanging on the ceiling.

Look through magazines and online for some great ideas for patios. When you are finished, you may want to spend more time outside than inside.

About Me

Creating a Quick Home Sale

One of the things that helped sell my home quickly, at least according to my real estate agent, was the time I spent fixing up the landscaping. I knew about the importance of eye appeal, but who would have thought that something as simple as a storage shed or a backyard veggie garden could make such a big difference in the sale price of a home, and the length of time it takes to sell said home? Well to prove that my landscaping techniques worked, I helped three friends sell their homes using some of my tips and tricks. It seems to have worked, because every one of them were able to fetch their asking price and sell before their goal deadlines. So, I figured I should help others out there who could use a little help in the home selling department… hopefully you'll find inspiration on the pages here.
