Helpful Tips For Installing Hardwood Flooring When You Have Pets

by Lillian Bishop

If you are a pet owner who is planning on installing new flooring in your home sometime soon, you might want to keep your pets in mind throughout the process. After all, as you might have already learned during your pet ownership journey, pets can cause extra wear and tear on flooring in some cases. If you're interested in installing wood flooring and are wondering if there is any advice that you should follow, consider the helpful tips below.

Consider Solid Hardwood Flooring

One good thing about having wood flooring is the fact that you can have your hardwood flooring sanded down and refinished later on if it is showing signs of wear and tear. This can be particularly helpful if you have pets. Since solid hardwood flooring can typically be sanded down and refinished more times than engineered wood flooring can, it's often a better and more long-lasting choice for households with pets.

Ensure It's Properly Finished

Consider choosing hardwood flooring that has already been finished instead of having the flooring finished after it's been installed. Additionally, make sure that you look for a wood flooring that has been properly finished to ensure that it will be as well-protected as possible against pet messes and claw marks.

Choose Flooring With a Stronger Grain Pattern

When you look at different types of wood flooring, you might find that some of them have stronger and more obvious grain patterns than others. If possible, you may want to choose wood flooring that does have a strong grain pattern. Then, if your pets' claws do end up causing scratches on the flooring, it could be more prone to blending in.

Add Rugs

Consider adding rugs and runners throughout your home. This can provide a more comfortable surface for your pet to lie on, for one thing. Additionally, it can help protect your flooring from scratches and other damage when your pets are running around and playing.

Clean it Frequently and Properly

Cleaning the flooring in your home regularly is important if you want to maintain a clean and sanitary home and if you want to keep your flooring looking its best. If you have pets, then you might need to clean your flooring even more often due to muddy paw prints and "accidents" that might occur. Make sure that you clean your floor properly by using the right cleaning supplies and a soft mop to prevent damage.

About Me

Creating a Quick Home Sale

One of the things that helped sell my home quickly, at least according to my real estate agent, was the time I spent fixing up the landscaping. I knew about the importance of eye appeal, but who would have thought that something as simple as a storage shed or a backyard veggie garden could make such a big difference in the sale price of a home, and the length of time it takes to sell said home? Well to prove that my landscaping techniques worked, I helped three friends sell their homes using some of my tips and tricks. It seems to have worked, because every one of them were able to fetch their asking price and sell before their goal deadlines. So, I figured I should help others out there who could use a little help in the home selling department… hopefully you'll find inspiration on the pages here.
