Landscaping Your Yard? How To Choose The Right Grass Seed

by Lillian Bishop

If you're getting ready to landscape your yard, don't forget about grass. Grass helps keep your home cool during the summer. It also gives your kids a comfortable place to play. But, you want to choose the right grass. There are quite a few things to consider when planting grass. If you're not sure how to choose grass for your yard, read the list below. Here are four things to consider when deciding on the right grass.

Deep Root System

If you want to choose the right grass for your yard, pay attention to the root system. One problem with shallow roots is that your grass only gets surface-level nutrients. That's where deep roots become beneficial. Deep roots get to the nutrients that are below the surface.  Also, deep roots ensure durability and strength. That means your lawn will stand up to daily use. Some grass with deep root systems includes Kentucky bluegrass and fine fescue.

Drought Resistant

If you live in an area that's dealing with drought conditions, you need to choose a grass that's drought resistant. If you choose the wrong grass, you may need to water it too often. Unfortunately, that can pose a problem when you're dealing with water restrictions. Plus, without enough water, your non-drought-resistant grass can die. That's where drought-resistant grass becomes beneficial. Drought-resistant water can thrive with less water. Drought-resistant grass includes buffalo turf and Bermuda grass.

Thick Coverage

If your yard gets a lot of foot traffic, you need grass that provides thick coverage. Some grass is too fragile to stand up to a lot of foot traffic. For high-traffic areas, you want to choose a thick grass like Zoysia or Kentucky bluegrass. There are several benefits to choosing these types of grass for your yard. They both provide thick coverage, and they're both soft. That means they'll work well in your backyard.

Rapid Growth

If you want to have an established lawn by the time fall rolls around, you need to start with the right seed. Several types of grass provide rapid germination and growth. When you choose this type of grass, you can enjoy your yard faster. When you need rapid growth, choose grass like perennial ryegrass or fine-line fescue. These types of grass grow fast and don't need a lot of maintenance.

Now that you're ready to buy grass for your home, start with the right seed. The tips provided here will help you get the grass that's best suited for your yard.

About Me

Creating a Quick Home Sale

One of the things that helped sell my home quickly, at least according to my real estate agent, was the time I spent fixing up the landscaping. I knew about the importance of eye appeal, but who would have thought that something as simple as a storage shed or a backyard veggie garden could make such a big difference in the sale price of a home, and the length of time it takes to sell said home? Well to prove that my landscaping techniques worked, I helped three friends sell their homes using some of my tips and tricks. It seems to have worked, because every one of them were able to fetch their asking price and sell before their goal deadlines. So, I figured I should help others out there who could use a little help in the home selling department… hopefully you'll find inspiration on the pages here.
